For Coach Gerald “Jigs” Tenorio, a certified fitness and rehab trainer since 2003, being fit is more than just looking fit and feeling good. He believes that in order to be fit and healthy, you have to excel in three things – cardiovascular strength, muscular strength, and flexibility. Using his in-depth knowledge and firsthand experience in training athletes and fitness enthusiasts alike, he prepares every fitness program with utmost care, making sure that it matches each and every client’s fitness level and goal.

But how exactly did he become one of the strongest pillars in the fitness industry? His inspiring story started long before he became a coach.

Coach Jigs’ family used to have a store that specializes in sporting goods. This sparked his interest in the fitness industry at a very young age. Motivated by his fascination with sports and fitness, he pursued a degree in Physical Therapy and took a wide variety of related certification programs.

Although he started with a dominantly “clinical” background, as a rehab specialist, he discovered the joys of working as a fitness trainer in the first gym that he worked for.

It was also then when he learned that his background as a physical therapist is what will give him an edge over other coaches because he can come up with safe and effective fitness programs for different clients. “My extensive knowledge in anatomy and physiology makes it easy for me to devise programs that suit each person, especially those who are recovering from injuries,” he added.

Thanks to his expertise in the field of fitness training and sports rehabilitation, he eventually reaped the rewards of all his hard work. He also acquired certifications from reputable organizations such as the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). All of these successes also led to a much bigger success as he became the physical therapist and strength and conditioning coach of the San Miguel Beermen.

Several years after Coach Jigs first became a coach, he reconnected with one of his old friends and discussed their dreams of coming up with their own fitness center. “He invited me to help him bring to life yung mga dreams namin when we were still working together. Unlike other gyms, we didn’t just want to focus on strength – we wanted to focus on the importance of rehabilitation, too,” he recounted.

Coach Jigs then became one of the cornerstones of Sante Impact System – a fitness center that aims to help clients achieve optimum performance.
