The San Miguel Beermen yet again, demonstrated another epic feat by bagging their 21st title in the 2015 PBA Governor’ Cup Championship against the solid Alaska Aces. The Beermen conquered the conference with a sweeping victory against the mighty Aces, 91-81. Strength and Conditioning Trainer Edward Bacason has been with the team since 1998 and over the years of coaching, he says that one of the secrets to winning conferences other than skill is improving strength and conditioning.

Since there are 3 conferences every year, players will likely experience their peak phases and need to have enough recovery time after every conference and that’s where the role of strength and conditioning comes in. The team’s pre-season training is periodized and divided into 8 weeks. The first two weeks are focused on light training then followed by another two weeks of moderate training. The athletes would have to go through heavy training during the 5th and 6th week and then taper down and go into a recovery phase on the last two weeks.

When you talk about improving strength, you’re not only talking about getting that muscular, lean, Johnny Bravo figure. Getting those gains means that you’ll need to work on your endurance—the muscles’ capability to work at a very long time. SImS fitness coach, Angelo Tenorio, explains that strength and conditioning is a continuous periodized training program which aims to educate the human body to work in its maximum performance either in sports, work, or any day-to-day activity

A study conducted by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention showed that strength training is effective for both athletes and non-athletes; men and women of all ages especially those with heart problems because it produces significant impact in a person’s emotional, mental, and physical health. It cuts the risk of diseases and its symptoms such as

  • Athritis
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Obesity
  • Back Pain
  • Depression

Dr. Jay Hoffman of The American College of Sports Medicine strongly suggests that resistance training or strengthening programs focus on three important body parts:

  1. Bones – As a living tissue, it easily remodels and adapts to physical stresses focuses on it thus resistance training increases bone strength and mineral content, yet decreases bone deterioration at the same time.
  2. Connective Tissues – Increases both the size of ligaments and tendons which reinforce support of the body.
  3. Muscle – Decrease in muscle mass produces loss in balance and makes it prone to fractures and falls. Strengthening improves its functional ability and significantly cuts the risk for injury.

Sante Impact System’s professional trainers are dedicated in helping you throughout your journey for significant impact. That’s why it’s important to leave your ego outside the gym by being always open to suggestions and criticisms which could be your ticket to that fitness goal you’re reaching for.

Sante Impact System has that vibe of being your second home where you treat it as a sanctuary for change in your body, especially in your life. The trainers over there are very friendly and will adjust to your goals—Body sculpting, improving strength, faster sprints—you just got to be honest on what you want to achieve. Once you reach your objectives, you’ll realize that the value of being fit is more than having a great body… it’s realizing that you can see yourself beyond what you think is impossible for you to achieve. Take it from Bruce Lee who once said, “I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”
